ASML is a Dutch high-tech company whose clients include many of the world’s
chip producers. The company develops and manufactures complex machines that are
crucial for the production of integrated circuits (ICs) or chips.
ASML has to deal with a huge quantity of files of paper, and at this moment they
are being digitized by VDD IQware. “The project concerns 20,000 files in total,”
explains Linda Gijsbers, “and each file contains an average of 400 pages. The
first step involves the files being indexed page by page to determine how the
document should be classified – whether it’s correspondence or a publication and
so on. Then the pages are scanned, and finally digitally indexed by associating
a date to the document and stored.”
There are currently nine people working on the project, and it is progressing
extremely well. “The goal is to have all the files digitized and indexed by
mid-January 2009. The way things are going, it looks as if we’ll be able to
achieve that, and we’re also scoring well in terms of the percentage of indexing
mistakes made. The requirement is to keep this under 5%, and we’re achieving
that too.” The benefits for ASML speak for themselves. By digitizing the files,
they can be retrieved from anywhere around the world at the touch of a button.
